I love the Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP. People here at work are slowly being upgraded to XP and one of those people called me today with a problem saying one of their network drives was not showing up . I had them invite me to a remote assistance session, I logged in, took control, re-mapped the drive and let them have their machine back. It not only saved me a drive to the other end of the complex but it also cut down on phone time too. And as we all know, if I dont have to use the phone I won’t.

Living out here in the country my truck tends to get really dirty really quick so I decided to spend the weekend cleaning it. Cleaning my truck takes on average about six to eight hours but when I am done it is definately worth the effort. Six to eight hours might seem like a long time and may be a waste but if you could see my truck when it is dirty, you would understand. The process goes about like this:

Washing:
1. High pressure soap, Meguiers NXT Generation (pressure washer)
2. High pressure rinse (pressure washer)
3. Hand wash, Meguiers NXT Generation soap
4. High pressure Rinse (pressure washer)
5. Wax and buff, Meguiers NXT Generation Tech wax
6. Scrub all unpainted ABS plastic with Mr. Clean Magic eraser
7. Scrub truck with bug and tar remover using sponge in net
8. Hand wash and high pressure rinse (because magic eraser and bug ‘n tar remover make a mess)
9. Clean wheels with wheel cleaner to remove brake dust then rinse.
10. Polish chrome (wheels and bumpers) with Meguiers NXT metal polysh
11. Spray wheels with tire shine.

Damn, and that’s just the outside! I won’t go into too much detail on the inside because I’m sure you’re starting to think I am crazy too.

1. Clean out all the crap that seems to accumulate in the truck.
2. Vacuum.
3. Scrub/wash floors.
4. Clean doors and dash, then wipe with protectant
5. Clean windows.

That’s what took damn near my whole weekend to do. I bought a bottle of engine degreaser to clean the engine bay but I didn’t get to that, everything else wiped me out!

For those of you who haven’t heard, I got a new job. I am the IT administrator for Starcraft Marine. By the way, that is different from a network administrator. I handle the computer network including 40 users, all the servers, phone system, fax and xerox machines and anything else that would otherwise stop the flow of information.
